Avobenzone appears to be relatively non-toxic and rarely causes skin irritation. However, like many synthetic chemicals is not clear whether avobenzone or its breakdown products can produce a low toxicity of long-term use. Since some of avobenzone is topically added to the systemic circulation, is not recommended for children or during pregnancy.
